Description
Robert Dabney (1820-98), who was for forty years Professor in Union Seminary, Virginia, U.S.A., was in the opinion of Dr. Archibald Alexander, 'the best teacher of theology in the United States, if not in the world'. The third volume includes Dabney's treatment of issues in society which are of perennial concern to the Church of Christ, including Anti-Christian Science, Secularized Education, Strikes and the influence of Roman Catholicism. A number of biographical skethes of great Christians whom Dabney knew also appear, including one of General T. J. ('Stonewall') Jackson, to whom Dabney had been Adjutant-General during the Civil War.

When headstrong Sunny sets off to join the wagon train to California, she finds more adventure than she had planned. Following the death of their parents, twenty-four-year-old Sunniva Lyndall and her younger brother, Tracy, leave the comforts and safety of their Ohio Valley home to travel west to California. With excitement, determination, and the money they received from the sale of the family farm, they head for Missouri and the wagon train that will take them west. But Sunny and her brother quickly learn the ways of the West the hard way when a con-man swindles them out of their money. Without means to buy supplies, California seems out of the question. But being stuck in Missouri is not what Sunny had planned for their future. Employment with the Pony Express seems to be the only available option. With Tracy as express rider and Sunny as station manager, it looks like they will soon earn enough to resume their journey. But unplanned adventure in the saddle of the Express awaits Sunny with the greatest challenge of her young life. Bestselling author Jane Peart takes readers to the Old West in the Westward Dreams Series with five novels of excitement, adventure, and romance. From mining camps to California vineyards, you'll meet women who must find a new life for themselves in a difficult, sometimes hostile environment. But with persistence, principle, and a steadfast faith, they not only survive, they thrive.

Description
Divorce. No one likes it, but it doesn't go away. Even among Christians, the divorce rate continues to climb. How should Christians approach this issue? May Christians ever legitimately divorce? If they divorce legitimately, may they remarry? Not everyone who appeals to Scripture agrees on how we should understand what it says about divorce and remarriage. In this book, four authors present their distinct perspectives. Carl Laney argues that the Bible indicates that marriages are always intended to be permanent, that there is never a need for divorce and that remarriage is never permissible after divorce. William Heth contends that while there are legitimate biblical grounds for divorce, there are no legitimate grounds for remarriage after divorce. Thomas Edgar defends the position that Scripture allows for divorce and remarriage in cases of adultry or desertion. Larry Richards holds that Scripture, while decrying divorce and the pain it causes, points to a God of grace who will not condemn those who divorce and remarry. Such a sensitive debate cannot remain abstract, so a case study accompanies each position, followed by critical responses from each essayist. The result is a thoughtful, helpful resource for all who wish to think biblically about a crucial issue confronting the church.
