This evening at New Durham Chapel we have a very special event occurring. We will be hosting an event entitled- “JC4NJ”, starting at 8 PM and going well past midnight. The purpose of this event is to uplift the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are bringing the body of Christ together as we desire to exalt the Lord Jesus Christ and lift His name in praise and adoration. In American history one of the most significant features has been the visitation of the Holy Spirit to bring sweeping revivals at critical moments in the life of our nation. The first great awakening in American history began in the 1730s and into the 1740s. New Jersey played a critical role in that first great awakening. During that time New Jersey was really at the crossroads of many of the events that precipitated the Holy Spirit’s visitation on America. We are partnering with our Indian friends from Masihi Mandir Christ Church and a number of other groups who desire to see spiritual awakening in America. We cannot bring revival in and of our own works but what we can do is foster an atmosphere of spiritual surrender as we call out to the Lord together in praise, prayer, confession and worship. We believe that it is God’s desire to bless “THE church”, not “a church”. Most churches draft easily towards the purpose of seeing things just from their own individual perspective, but in bringing a diverse group of people together from different nationalities, Christian convictions and worship styles we are seeking to transcend the focus being about us and the focus instead being about uplifting with one voice, one heart and one name the name and character of the Lord Jesus Christ. He alone is worthy of all of our praise and adoration. Many Christians in our society today have looked toward the government to meet their most pressing needs. That’s a sad misplace of priorities for it is God alone and a personal relationship with His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ that can meet the deepest needs of our heart and lives.
In Solomon’s prayer at the dedication of the Temple he gave a very important principle of what happens when a nation falls away from God and how they should respond when God brings drought or pestilence on the land. We read his words –“if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land”, (2 Chron.7:14 NKJV). While we know the correct interpretation in this passage is for the nation of Israel we also believe it has great application for us living in 21st century America. America has certainly turned away from our spiritual moorings and foundation and turned away from God. So we as God’s people are uniting our voices together in our hearts to seek God for revival. We know that revival begins in individual hearts and lives before it can even start to change the life of the church. But it is through individuals re-dedicating themselves to Christ that the church is then transformed in order to be a transforming agent in the community. We’re praying for a mighty moving and working of the Spirit of God on this day at NDC. No one needs the plan to stay for the whole time but if God leads you to do so we’re sure it will be because He is pouring out His Spirit on your life to touch your heart and life and transform those areas of your life that need His amazing touch. God will certainly do something amazing tonight if our hearts are open to His work and His will. Won’t you come out and be blessed? There is no hope for America apart from a powerful spiritual awakening. May it begin with us!
To God be the glory,
