I love the Psalmist who writes, “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him” (34:8 NIV). This coming Saturday (June 7th) we gather once again to celebrate the great goodness of the Lord to us. Our Taste of the World event is a continuation of our deep desire here at New Durham Chapel to engage and encourage our community to experience the bounty of the Lord. At our event we give everything away. There is free food, free Fun Bus and free pony rides. But also there is the chance to receive the best gift of all- the gift of eternal life found through Jesus Christ. We’ve been doing spring outreach events since 2006. That year in May we hosted our 1st event, an end of the year party for the CEF kids from Grandville elementary school. Last year’s Taste of the World was a great opportunity to celebrate the diversity and variety of our church and community. We praise God for that great event even as we anticipate another blessed gathering tomorrow.
We’ve even made arrangements with the one in charge to give us a perfect weather day. We celebrate because our God in His goodness has provided in abundance out of His grace for us. I attended a pastor friend’s street fair last year after our Taste of the World event. You had to pay for everything, 5 dollars for a piece of cake! It was a fund raiser. Our Taste of the World even is not a fund raiser but a friend raiser. We’re not interested in how we can get your money but we are interested in you. Again in the 34th Psalm we read “Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together” (v.3 NIV).
Won’t you please come and join us for this special time (2-6 PM) together this coming Saturday? Not only will you have a chance to taste food from all around the world but you may experience an encounter with the living God of the universe. Taste and see our God is really, really good and He’s provided a remarkable salvation for us through the Lord Jesus Christ. Join us as we celebrate the grace and joy of our great Savior Jesus Christ.
