Last week I was blogging about our Taste of the World event this past Saturday. I mentioned food from over the world- we had 12 food stations. One thing that surprised me was the very intense worship experience that happened to me at the ministry tent. I wrote last week in my blog, “not only will you have a chance to taste food from all around the world but you may experience an encounter with living God of the universe”. I was writing that for my readers but imagine my joy when I was the one who experienced this rather amazing touch of God on my life Saturday afternoon. I had been pretty busy from about 10 AM when around 5 PM a couple of young girls from our church were preparing to sing. I thought I could encourage them by attending and my heart was lifted with great joy as they ministered in song. I felt a certain level of relaxation as I sat down since I had been on my feet for over 7 hours.
Next a worship band was playing and I decided to stay and listen and worship Jesus through song. As I sat and listened to the band I thought, “This is how it’s going to be in heaven, people from every nation and tongue enjoying one another and worshipping Jesus together”. I could feel the gentle breeze blowing and hear the children playing in the background. It just filled my heart with a deep sense of Shalom! Then our worship leader, Giselle Sera-Josef got up and sang “Oh, how He loves us”. I closed my eyes and entered fully into the joy of the Lord. I was so overwhelmed by the presence of the Lord that I thought I could go to heaven right then in perfect peace.
But I guess Jesus still has something for me to do for Him because I’m still here writing this blog for you. It was a moment of pure ecstasy for me that truly was a taste of heaven. I hadn’t planned to share anything at the tent that day but I had to share the testimony of what I had just experienced. You see the whole event was happening because of God’s great love for us and our desire to share that with others. God has blessed us in abundance through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ and we had the privilege of sharing His love with our community. There were many that day who made a decision to trust Christ as their Savior and God allowed us to play a small part in helping to build His kingdom. Isn’t that what heaven is about with the angels in heaven rejoicing when a lost lamb is brought back into Jesus’ flock. I was talking with a young mom in a follow-up conversation after the event and she shared with me that is was one of the best days she’d ever experienced with her 2 young sons. All because God loves us so and we decided to share that love with our community in the best way we could. All praise to our great Savior who many times shows up in unexpected ways to give us a “taste of heaven”.
