I want to use my blog this week to thank all of you who worked so hard to make our “Taste of the World Day” such a very special event. I think of all those who were there at 10:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m. when we finished clean up as well as all those who served in so many other special ways. What an amazing day of service. We prayed on Thursday evening at a special prayer meeting for a spirit of love and fellowship to fill the day and that’s exactly what we had. From the 10-12 food tables to the ministry tables to the ministry tent Christ was glorified and I believe God smiled on our efforts to serve in this unique way. I believe Jesus’ mission statement is found in the 19th chapter of Luke’s gospel when Jesus says, “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost” (v.10 NJK). I believe we did a pretty good job of allowing the Holy Spirit to work through us to reach out to the lost with the love of Christ.
We had 105 family units fill out our visitors form though I’m sure some visitors got by without filling out the form. There were 10 people at the SOS table who prayed to receive Christ as their personal Savior. Around 100 Bibles were distributed at the Gideon table. As Deb and I did some follow-up on Monday evening one person shared what a blessing it was to feel the love and acceptance she experienced. This young woman was not a Christian. The Missions committee gave out 5 gift cards to randomly selected people. The families the gift cards went to were from Uruguay, India, China, the Philippines and Nigeria. How’s that for a reflection of the diversity of the crowd; that truly is a taste of international flavor. What a blessing it was to see so many different people and to know that our loving service helped some to come to understand that there is a God in heaven who loves them. Even as I give God all the praise, I can still boast about my friends who worked and gave generously of their time, energy and resources to make this day an incredible day of blessing. Thank you again for partnering with Jesus in seeking to save the lost and impact our community and world for Christ.
