Each day I start my day by sitting in our living room and opening God’s Word and meditating upon the truths of His Word. I’m not sure how the phrase the living room came into being but I imagine that the meaning has changed greatly over the last 2 generations. Many homes now days have not only a living room but a family room as well. But I wonder if much living is actually happening in our living rooms or if our family rooms are really places where we are meeting with our families.
Depending on how your house is structured, the living room might get a alot of traffice but are we really living there? At the center of most living rooms today is the T.V. Can I suggest that many times the T.V. actually takes away from our living and our families. Can I confess to you personally that this past Christmas season I spent way too much time watching football games. I don’t think that was actually living or family friendly.
Jesus said “I came that they might have it abundantly” (John 10:10 NASB). I think the opportunity to have this abundant life means encountering Jesus in every room of my heart, especially in my living room (how I live, walk and work everyday) and my family room (how I love and treat those closest to me).
Jesus in the house in 2011 also means that my living room must be a place where others can encounter what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ. I hope and pray in 2011 that our living rooms will become places where others can encounter the presence of Jesus in our lives. Let’s utilize all the abundant blessings God has granted to us to serve Jesus and allow Him the presence in our homes that He so greatly deserves.
