Incredible Liberty

One of the verses from our study in 2 Corinthians this past week got me thinking about the incredible liberty we have in Jesus Christ.  In the 3rd chapter and 18th verse Paul writes “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (NASB).  One of my clearest impressions from being in Israel recently was the deep sense of gratitude I felt to the Lord Jesus Christ for the liberty we have in Him.  At every meal we ate in Israel I was reminded of the burden of trying to please God by keeping the law.  Let me explain. »»

A New Season

It’s a new Season, new Purpose and Vision! The Lord is making all things new in our Women’s Ministry at New Durham Chapel and we are excited!

The Women’s Committee has worked very hard this summer to come up with a new Purpose and Vision for ministering to the women here at NDC.  We would like to introduce to you how we, with God’s leading, plan to carry out this purpose.  Maybe you will find a place in those plans and commit with us to bring glory to God! »»

A word from our Pastor

Never Say Never

Never Say Never

It was about 6 years ago that the Missions Committee at New Durham Chapel requested that I should go on a Missions trip. I had been invited earlier to come (by our missionary Shibu Simon) to India to teach at Kerala Baptist Bible College in Kerala India. My first response was to question why the Missions committee felt that would be valuable for the church. »»

Why Do Missions Anyway (pt. 2)

Why Do Missions Anyway (pt. 2)

Last week I was blogging about the invitation I have accepted to do a mission trip to India this coming November.  I was sharing some thoughts on the question “Why do Missions Anyway?” and I would like to continue my thoughts in this blog.  One of the most significant moments in church history occurs in the 13th chapter of the Book of Acts.  In that chapter the church leadership, after a season of prayer and fasting, calls out Barnabas and Saul (later to become Paul) to go and take the gospel to places where it hasn’t declared. »»

Why Do Missions Anyway?

Why Do Missions Anyway?

Recently our Missions Committee recommended and the Elder Board approved a missions trip for me to go to India to train pastors at a Pastors conference  later this year.  I was very excited about this opportunity that God seemed to clearly put before me.  »»

Incredible Liberty (Part 2)

Incredible Liberty (Part 2)

Back before Christmas, I was blogging about the incredible liberty we have in our diets because of the freedom Jesus has given us by setting us free from the dietary restrictions of the Old Testament law.  I was reminded of another area of liberty that Jesus has given us in my morning devotions recently.  In the 2nd chapter of Mark’s gospel Jesus is questioned because his disciples picked some heads of grain on the Sabbath.  Jesus in responding shared the story of David and his men eating the consecrated bread. Then he added these words “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.  So the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath” (v. 27-28, NIV). »»

Getting Started in 2012

Getting Started in 2012

We brought in the New Year with my son and daughter and grandchildren in Michigan.  It was an interesting and challenging week that I had hoped to complete by taking my grandsons to church on New Year’s morning.  Ethan (8) and Tyler (4) were a joy to be with throughout the week and I thought going to church with them would be a good thing to do.  Because Central Michigan was scheduled to get 2-6 inches of snow on Sunday afternoon, I thought it best to plan to go to a church with an early service time.  So one of my first tasks for 2012 was to round up my grandsons to go church around the corner from their home that advertised a 9:15 AM worship time.  But guess what, they were only having an 11 AM service that day. As we drove away I thought of another church that we might stop at to see what time their service was held. »»
